These Were Christian Nations

Many of us today no longer recognise that the freedoms and rights that are enjoyed in the Western nations stem from their Christian past. Our laws were based on biblical principles. 1 Click on the links below to read about the Christian history of various nations.

Christians caused the abolition of slavery in the United States. As a matter of fact, the first settlers coming to the U.S. fled from religious persecution in Europe and wanted to build a society based on the Bible, which can still be recognised today in the national character and identity of the most powerful nation on Earth. As we erode our Christian heritage, we erode the moral standing, prosperity and standard of life that we once enjoyed. 2 Many are the problems our nations face today because they no longer recognise God’s laws as supreme in both policy making and in our private lives.

Studying our Christian past will reveal the crucial role the Reformation has played in taking Europe out of the so-called “Dark Ages” and how it brought enlightenment, freedom and prosperity to all affected by it. 3 You will discover that God has had His hand in history (His-story), and that we are meant to play a positive role in the world by applying Christian principles to national and personal decisions. The summaries outlining Christian history are a challenge to every sceptic to consider the fruit of Christianity, and to every Christian to go back to the roots of the early, fiery days of the biblical faith once held so dear in all the nations listed below.

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (JUDE 3).
