How I Got Blessed with a Job

I would like to tell you how the Lord blessed me with my job.

I have been working in my company for about seven years now, and shortly after I started, I began praying that I would be able to work from home. We wanted to start a family, and I also wanted to be able to stay at home with the kids. When I was just about to go on maternity leave with our first child (this was about 4 years ago), I asked my boss if it would be possible for me to start working from home when I was to return to work. He didn't have anything against this, but one of the managers did not agree. When I came back from maternity leave, I did not get my old job back and was given other things to do.

The whole atmosphere at work was also not pleasant; I didn't have a desk or a computer and often had to wait for other people's computers, before I could do my work. I was thinking of leaving, but a few friends from our church advised me to stay, keeping the situation in prayer and watch, what the Lord would do. So I did.

Six months later, the manager, who was against me working from home and had taken my old job from me, left. Also the girl who had been given my job became pregnant and also quit. I thought I would get my old job back and could then try to talk to my bosses again about whether I could work from home. I talked to the company director and he told me that they wanted to employ someone else for my old job. I asked him if I could do it, since I knew this job and really liked it. He didn't say no, but the new person was already employed. He offered me a transfer to another branch (where I used to work when I started). I agreed, but was a bit disappointed and thought that I would never be able to work from home. I kept asking and trying to get my old position back until one day, when I was praying, the Lord reminded me of the scripture in ISAIAH 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." I suddenly realised, that instead of trusting the Lord and letting him work things out for me I was trying to do this myself, and because of this I could have missed out on the blessing He wanted to give me.

So from then on I stopped asking for my old job, and soon after this I realised, that my new job was something I could do from home as well. However, at this time I was pregnant again and on top of it our babysitter for our son Philip wasn't able to look after him three days a week anymore. I needed to find a solution for the third day so I could still work. My husband suggested that this was a perfect opportunity to ask my bosses again if I could work two full days at work and swap the third day at work for three mornings at home. This would leave me with the same hours and income, but I could be at home with Philip three days a week instead of two.

One of my friends, who is also working from home, gave me the advice: “Think of what you could do from home and how you could do it,” i.e. to have solutions ready for my bosses. I did this and we prayed a lot for the whole situation. When my boss got back from his holiday, I explained the whole situation to him and asked him if it was possible for me to work from home. He said that he needed to check with the directors, as they had never had anyone working from home. A few days later he asked me to prepare a list of tasks I could do from home, and two weeks later I started working from home. Praise the Lord!!!

Shortly before our second child was born the director has asked me if I would like to continue working from home after my maternity leave. Now, almost 2.5 years later I still enjoy working from home where I can look after my kids at the same time. The bosses are very pleased as well. Since then they have allowed a few other people from the company to work from their homes. So, Praise the Lord for this great blessing.
