How To Get Peace Of Mind?

Hello Everyone

I'd like to tell you something exciting about ‘praying in the Spirit', (speaking in tongues), the prayer language that God gives you as a confirmation that you have received the Holy Spirit. There are a number of reasons why God gives you this prayer language, among them are to build up your faith and to encourage you.

JUDE 20: "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost."

1 CORINTHIANS 14:4 "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. "

to seek God in prayer and fasting until they 'break through'

I was part of group of people from our Assembly who visited Pastor Yonggi Cho's church in South Korea (Seoul). One thing that stood out for most of us was the fervency in which the Christians over there prayed to God. They would have regular all night youth prayer meetings and people would pray with a zeal that I had not witnessed before. The attitude of many Christians in South Korea is to seek God in prayer and fasting until they 'break through' and receive an answer from the Lord for their particular problems.

When I came back I was convinced and convicted about the importance and power of prayer, particularly 'praying in tongues/praying in the Spirit'. Not long after my return I faced a tremendous trial in my Christian walk, without going into detail, it brought me to the brink of despair, I was at the end of my tether and my mind went berserk. I then opened the Bible for guidance and specifically prayed that God would speak to me through His Word.

The first scripture I looked at was:

ISAIAH 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

I then thought there is no other situation where your mind is more perfectly stayed on God than when praying in the Spirit, as the Holy Spirit communicates through your spirit with God – He will do this more perfectly than we would ever be able to by ourselves. I actually was at work at the time, but immediately started praying (quietly) in the Spirit. As soon as I did that, I had peace (perfect peace, just as the scripture says). As soon as I stopped, my mind was going berserk again. This was a very powerful experience, so I used every opportunity to pray in tongues and it kept any crazy thoughts at bay and it gave me faith for my trial to come to an end. This would go on for a few days and finally, just in the nick of time, the Lord brought about 'a solution' with His miraculous guidance and my problem disappeared.

I then got a lift to drive up to Scotland for a Christian convention, it was a good 8 hour drive and I read out loud from a book about Smith Wigglesworth, a British evangelist known for his healing ministry. It was an entirely faith-building book and half way through I was stunned to come across that same scripture in Isaiah: "…Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." - a stunning confirmation that God revealed to me the importance of ‘praying in tongues’.

...but a third powerful confirmation of the things the Lord wanted to show me...

On one of the days during our time at the convention in Scotland, we visited the Covenantors Prison at Greyfriars Kirkyard in order to learn about a movement among Scottish Presbyterians who defended their Protestant faith and were heavily persecuted for that. At one point 1200 of them were captured and some 400 of them were imprisoned in Greyfriars Kirkyard over the winter months. They were kept there without any shelter and hardly any food. Many of them succumbed to the harsh conditions and died, other were tried and executed. Seeing the very place and the conditions the people were kept in had a huge impact on me and I wondered how they were able to endure that.

On one of the outside walls of the prison I saw a scripture engraved, guess which one? Right, "…Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Not a coincidence, but a third powerful confirmation of the things the Lord wanted to show me.

This is just to share this powerful revelation about the benefits of ‘praying in the Spirit’, I hope and pray it might help some of your out there to have that 'perfect peace' that Isaiah is referring to.

With God's Love

Harry.
