God Provides a Job

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I live in Canberra, Australia.

I would like to tell you about how the Lord blessed me with a fantastic job and great workmates when I first moved to Australia from New Zealand last year.

I moved to Australia in 2006 after having completed just one year of my teaching course at University. I enjoyed the course, but the Lord seemed to have different plans for me. I moved to Australia with the hope and vision of becoming a secretary or PA (Personal Assistant) in a small, personal and friendly business.

I began my search with much prayer, but it seemed that in Australia and especially in Canberra, where there are lots of public service jobs, you need to be an Australian citizen. On top of that, my vision of becoming a PA encountered a major setback when I realised that I had little chance of getting what I really wanted, because of my lack of qualifications.

After a few weeks of looking around, not finding much and getting a little desperate, I was advised to go for anything that would pay a wage. I found a waitressing job whilst continuing to look for a full time office job, and continued to pray in the meantime for my dream job. My prayer points included it being in a small office of about 10-15 people, within 30 minutes of home on public transport, and for a certain salary. Then one day I saw a tiny little ad in the newspaper advertising a Junior Administrative Assistant Position. For some reason I knew I had to go and apply for it.

When I walked into the office there was nothing happening - there were only 3 people in the office and I started to wonder whether this was really what I was after. I was asked back for a trial and eventually got the job. It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for; I was making signs for the stores and photocopying things for the boss, doing all the little things that no one else likes doing. I didn't really mind though because I knew this job had been given to me by the Lord.

keep my eyes on Him and praise Him for everything we receive

As time went on I gained more responsibility within the business, I got to know my workmates very well and work was becoming more and more enjoyable. Then earlier this year my boss made me his Personal Assistant! More and more people have been employed in the office and our team now consists of 10 people. I may have an opportunity to further my studies through the company and the people are still great. I couldn't believe it the other day when I thought back to when I first arrived and made my job prayer list. Every point and MORE had been answered, even if it took a few months to come to pass! I learned never to give up, but to keep my eyes on Him and praise Him for everything we receive - even if it doesn't seem to fit into our plan. The Lord promises in His Word that He will always look after us in every way. “Are not two sparrows sold for a fathering? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows” (MATTHEW 10:29–31). Sometimes the Lord just wants to see how much we trust in Him to provide all our needs, this builds faith and trust.

Praise the Lord, He always cares for us so much, everything will happen in HIS time if we continue to praise Him and lean on Him.

Much love in Christ,

Steph
