Drawn to Fellowship!
My name is Scott and I want to share with you how the Lord drew me to fellowship. I had already discovered the truth about God through the study of science. Molecular biology (irreducible complexity), astronomy, geology— as well as archaeology and ancient history—all clearly and precisely point towards an intelligent designer:
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (ROMANS 1:20). When we stand before God on Judgment Day, none of us will have an excuse because the evidence is all around us. We just need to want to see it.
Upon realizing all of this, I travelled from Darwin, where I lived, to this church in Coffs Harbour many thousands of kilometres away. There, I was baptised in water by full immersion and later on received the Holy Spirit according to the scripture,
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (JOHN 3:5).
I travelled all the way back to Darwin. A few months went by and although I knew I was not in the right church and needed to get back to the assembly where I was baptized, I kept procrastinating. I kept telling myself that “I will do something about it later”. This went on for a while.
I suddenly woke up with pain...This rapidly became so excruciating that I curled up,
One morning while I was off duty on a mining site where I worked, I suddenly woke up with a pain in the right side of my abdomen. This rapidly became so excruciating that I curled up, writhing in agony. I have had broken bones before and gone through other painful traumas but this pain on a scale from 1 to 10 was right up near 10. I didn’I know what was going on in my abdomen and was confused and scared. After trying to deal with this pain for a while I started praying for healing and relief, but nothing happened. I asked God to show me what was happening and why I wasn’t getting healed? It was then that God reminded me of my laziness in getting back to the church I was baptised into. I knew at that moment that I couldn’t procrastinate any longer. I aked God to confirm this thought and the answer was a clear ‘yes’. But it wasn’t over; I had to commit to a date. So I committed to leaving Darwin for Brisbane no later than the 31st of January 2011 (approx 3 month later) and I made that date a promise to God. The moment I made that promise and had committed to it in my heart, the pain started to go. After 30 seconds it had completely gone. I was able to stand up and move about. Praise the Lord for my healing and showing me what I needed to do.
"I started to cough up blood and was in no way fit..."
Almost three months later, on the 29th of January 2011, I had almost finalized everything and my furniture had already left, when the bad cough I had had for a few days worsened. On the afternoon of the 30th of January 2011, I started to cough up blood and was in no way fit to drive the several thousands of kilometres to Brisbane the following morning. I thought I was going to have to break my promise to God. I called someone from the church and told him my condition. He explained to me that it was Satan trying to stop me in any way possible, as he knew that by me moving to Brisbane, I would receive the training and knowledge to defeat him.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (EPHESIANS 6:11);
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (JAMES 4:7). After the phone call I understood how Satan, who is the father of all lies (
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (JOHN 8:44)) was trying to make me a liar and break my commitment to God. At that point, I made the decision that no matter how bad my cough was, I would not lie to God and would leave first thing in the morning no matter what.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (MATTHEW 6:33). c
“... know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever” (1 CHRONICLES 28:9). God looks into our hearts and could see my heart decision. Within 20 minutes or so, God had healed my cough so much that I was able to leave on time the next morning and drive to Brisbane. On the 31st of January 2011, I drove 1,750kms from Darwin to cross the border into Queensland. And then another 1,750 kms the following 2 days to get to Brisbane! Praise the Lord for his wonderful healing and protection.
You don't know when you will die...
Let me finish by saying that most of my life I had believed in a God. I had also believed that I was OK because I was a good person. I was kind and always tried to not hurt others. I had good morals and standards, and thought I would be all right on Judgment Day. How wrong I was. I soon discovered that we are all filthy in the eyes of God before we find salvation, even those of us who think we are righteous.
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away” (ISAIAH 64:6). That is why it is so important for YOU to turn to God NOW. Give your life and heart to him. You don’t know when you will die and the very moment you do it is too late.
“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call” (ACTS 2:37-39). We are in a spiritual battle. Make sure YOU are on the right side. We all know who wins in the end.
“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (REVELATION 20:10).
Man's one great responsibility in life
is to make the necessary arrangements
for his precious soul to be safe
and happy in eternity. Nothing else -
Nothing else - is so important as this!
