God's Great Week

Actually a "week" in Bible terms means SEVEN DAYS. The Hebrew word ‘SHABUA’ takes us from "Sabbath to Sabbath", and many of the Old Testament feast days were associated with "weeks" of days, and "weeks of years" were identified in multiples of seven.

The apostle Peter gives a valuable clue: "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that ONE DAY is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (2 PETER 3:8). Whether generalities or not, Peter reminds us that from ADAM to CHRIST was indeed 4,000 years (4 days) and thus in context with his discourse on the "Second Advent" indicates that an added 2 days (2,000 years) brings us to the present time and, incidentally, to the last moments of the 6th day. The next (7th) day should usher in "the millennium" which is the more commonly known term for the 7th (sabbatical) thousand years.

Some divisions in God's Great Week are highlighted in Old Testament history. The story of the flood the first major historical event after the Adamic Creation is found at the beginning of the second "day", (1,000 years from Adam).

The all important ABRAHAMIC Covenant is located at the commencement of the THIRD "day" from Adam.

Bible history records the dedication of the temple of Solomon as being in the year 3001 from the Adamic Creation. And of course the birth of the Redeemer of Israel, the Lord Jesus Christ, was 1,000 years (1 day) later again, for history records that Jesus was born some 4,000 years from the Adamic Creation.

In context to these "prophetic" DAYS, the prophet Daniel had revelations of the coming of the Messiah in different "weekly" measurements.

"Seventy WEEKS are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city to..." (DANIEL 9:24), etc. The fulfilment of the items enumerated here are obvious, but we note with interest that "WEEKS" were used in the Bible message.

The principle of GOD'S GREAT WEEK is based on the Old Testament pattern of a Hebrew Week, culminating in the "day of rest" and the "Jubilee" it will provide for ISRAEL.

Note that although the nation of Israel defaulted badly and became absorbed into the Gentile world, a "spiritual" Israel was raised up dating from the First Pentecost. The word PENTECOST again identifies the finish of seven weeks (a week of weeks) with the PASSOVER celebrating the fiftieth day and presenting us with a (super) SABBATH. This happening also ties in with Daniel's prophecy of 70 weeks which contains 490 (prophetic) years.

In conclusion, God has a GREAT WEEK. The story opens 4,000 B.C., continues to the Christ of Calvary 4,000 years (4 days) later, and since Calvary, has brought us almost another 2,000 years (2 days) to the present time. We are entitled to consider that, just as the 6th Day (Sixth 1,000 years) runs out SOON, the other prophecies relating to ARMAGEDDON and the Second ADVENT are imminent.

Jesus said: "And except those (now 'THESE') days should be shortened (cut off), there should NO FLESH BE SAVED, but for the elect's sake THOSE (THESE) DAYS SHALL BE SHORTENED" (MATTHEW 24:22). The end of GOD'S GREAT WEEK is at hand; the Jubilee and the promised "rest" is imminent.

"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished" (REVELATION 20:5). This speaks of the SEVENTH THOUSAND YEARS now rapidly approaching, and in its sequence AFTER ARMAGEDDON and CHRIST'S RETURN.
