The Challenge of Israel's Identity
EVERY prophetic Bible mark of Israel is found in the Anglo-Saxon-Celtic nations. These Bible marks cannot be applied to any other group of people. If the Jews are the only representatives of Israel today, then the Bible has failed, God has not fulfilled His promises, and we can no longer rely upon His Word! God forbid! Even the Jews recognise that they are but a remnant of Israel, and that the ten tribes are to be found elsewhere.
The Lord Jesus Christ Himself said:
"The Kingdom of God shall be taken from you (the Jews)
, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof" (MATTHEW 21:43). According to the Old Testament this nation would be lost Israel restored, who would become the custodians of the Word of God and the Gospel of the Kingdom. This nation is Anglo-Saxon-Israel, which is indeed the custodian of the evangelical Gospel of the Kingdom.
Israel (Anglo-Saxondom) and Judah (the Jews) are to be reunited at the second coming of Christ. God has said:
"Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand" (EZEKIEL 37:19). Already this trend is evident. It was the British people who made Palestine a national home for the Jews. About the only friends the Jews have are the Anglo-Saxon peoples. Soviet Communism and the Arabs are all arrayed against Jewry, and the Jews are looking more and more to Britain and America. Already the matter of the entry of the Jews into the British Commonwealth of Nations has been raised in official circles. Developments along this line will be interesting to watch in the light of Bible prophecy!
Not Cause for Pride
Being of Israel descent has no connection with individual salvation. The unconditional promises made to Israel have been fulfilled nationally, but individually a man must repent and believe the Gospel if he is to be saved (See MARK 1:15). Jesus said:
"And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the Kingdom of Heaven. But the children of the Kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (MATTHEW 8:11-12).Jesus also said:
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God" (JOHN 3:3).
The fact that the Anglo-Saxon peoples are Israel is not cause for national pride, but a challenge to repent. While nationally we have been the custodians of the Gospel of the Kingdom, the vast majority of our people are backslidden, disobedient and unsaved. The Bible says:
"Therefore say unto the House of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O House of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake... Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O House of Israel" (EZEKIEL 36:22,32).
God's Faith is at Stake!
Somewhere in the world today is God's servant nation Israel - not the Jews only, but the descendants of the twelve tribes. God swore that this nation would stand for ever.
"Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; the LORD of hosts is his name: If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Thus saith the LORD: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done ..." (JEREMIAH 31:35-37).
The identification of Old Testament Israel with Britain and U.S.A. seems to mean little to some professing Christians. Many claim that God has changed His mind, or that the promises made to the patriarchs are now the property of the Church, or that Jewry will ultimately inherit their place and the promises. Discarding the promises leaves an enormous gap in Bible prophecy and makes some seven-eighths of God's Word futile. Changing the blessings to the Church or giving them to the Jews alone makes God's oath recorded by Jeremiah as false.
What does it signify when we identify Israel? Does it really matter that we should be able to locate the nation which is the object of God's promises and blessing? Yes indeed, and for the following reasons:
- God has pre-written history around the nation Israel. If we cannot locate Israel, or discard them from God's plan, or spiritualize them into the Church, then we cannot interpret God's instructions for our own future - which He thought it important to tell us.
- If Israel has been discarded by God, then His Word is suspect. Can we trust Him? - For on Him and His faithfulness rests our salvation. If He changed His mind about Israel, perhaps He has changed His mind about our eternal life.
- The political situation in the world today has the thinking person baffled. Is there no future beyond the atom bomb? Has God no regard for the situation in which man has placed himself by his own hand? Identifying Israel puts the Lord back in His rightful place in the affairs of men - in charge. There certainly is hope beyond the coming conflict - and God has revealed His plan for our future through His prophets, woven around the nation of Israel.
